To deepen understanding of "the public". To gain knowledge of the variations of Public Philosophy. To gain knowledge of the postwar history of the public in Japan. To learn how to think philosophically, and in a principled manner about coexistence with others.
A subject called "public studies" was offered in social studies in the high-school curriculum. It may be possible to create a new subject from the present situation and demands of society, but "the public" will be what? Also, in recent years, the academic field of "Public Philosophy", which differs from conventional philosophy has attracted attention, but why? What are its features? In this lecture, we will consider “the public” as an area of coexistence with others, examining the principles and history of the public, and of Public Philosophy.

公共について理解を深める。公共哲学のバリエーションを知る。戦後日本における公共の歴史を知る。他者との共存について，哲学的・原理的に考える方法を学ぶ。

高等学校の社会科では「公共」という科目ができた。時代状況や社会の要請から，新たな科目ができるのであろうが，「公共」とはそもそも何であるのか。また近年，「公共哲学」という学問領域が注目されているが，それはなぜか。どのような特徴を持っているのか。この講義では，公共と公共哲学の原理や歴史を検討することを通じて，他者との共存・共生の領域である「公共」について考えていく。

空き時間を埋めるためではなく，興味を持って履修する受講者を求める。写真や図などを多用して初学者にもわかりやすい講義となるよう努めるが，授業態度には厳しくする。私語や睡眠などは厳禁の授業なので（平常点に反映される場合がある），その点を自覚（理解と賛同）したうえで履修すること。なお，内容と順番は多少変更する可能性がある。
