The goal of the class is to understand the variety of literary works in the development period of Taisho era literature, and to understand the development and background of Taisho era literature. Through this process, we aim to improve basic skills for literary studies.
In addition to examination of the content of specific works presented in the year, the class will engage in contemporary evaluation, examination of media background, etc., and, by taking the relationships among these into consideration, will re-examine the meaning of literary trends and social aspects of literary works of this period. Reports by participants will be in two stages: reports on specific works, and what sort of works to use as materials. Through that process, participants will improve their research skills.

大正期文学の展開期の文学作品の多様性を知り、大正期文学の展開と背景を理解することを目標とします。またそのプロセスを通して、文学研究のための基本的スキルの向上を目指します。
The goal of the class is to understand the variety of literary works in the development period of Taisho era literature, and to understand the development and background of Taisho era literature. Through this process, we aim to improve basic skills for literary studies.
大正9年、田山花袋・徳田秋声の生誕五十年祝賀会の開催、「文芸の社会化」の問題提起、菊池寛『真珠夫人』などの通俗小説の流行、大正10年、小説家協会の設立など、この時期は文学の世界と一般社会との関係性が問い直されることになります。『種蒔く人』の創刊など、プロレタリア文学運動の展開も本格化し、ブルジョア文学との軋轢が焦点化されることになります。それを体現したのは大正11年に「宣言一つ」を発表する有島武郎の動向でしょう。
この授業では、この年に発表された具体的な作品に即して、その内容の検討に加え、同時代的な評価、メディア的背景などを検討し、それらの関係性を視野に入れることによって、この時期の文学作品の社会的位相や文学的傾向の意味を再検討します。なお、参加者による報告は、具体的な課題・作品をめぐる報告と、どのような作品・文学的動向を素材とするかの二段階とし、その過程で研究スキルの向上を図ります。
