In this seminar, we will re-examine orientalism from different points of view (18th-century French literature, opera, ballet etc.).
Re-reading Said's famous study, Orientalism, we will carefully examine Orientalist discourse in Eighteenth-Century France. We will also examine some operas and ballets of the 19th and 20th centuries.

フランスにおけるオリエンタリズムについて考えます。文学、哲学、オペラ、バレエ、ファッションといったさまざまな角度からこの問題を再考します。
In this seminar, we will re-examine orientalism from different points of view (18th-century French literature, opera, ballet etc.).
「オリエント」の表象はフランス文学・思想・芸術において絶えず「問題」でありつづけてきました。この授業では、「オリエント」をめぐる言説の爆発がおき、舞台芸術やモードまで席捲した18世紀からはじめ、19世紀の文学や芸術（とりわけオリエンタリストと呼ばれる画家の作品）を概観したのち、現代のオリエンタリズムについて考えます。そのさい、背景となる政治状況や経済状況についてもていねいにみていきます。
