We will consider the relationship between plastic arts and words.
In this class, we will read the texts of William Morris, who is said to be the father of modern design, together with representative works by Shuzo Kuki, Tenshin Okakura, and Soetsu Yanagi, and examine the relation between beauty, poetry, and labor in contrast to Japanese aesthetics.

造形芸術と言葉との関係について考察します。
We will consider the relationship between plastic arts and words.
この授業では、モダン・デザインの父と言われるウィリアム・モリスのテクストを、九鬼周造、岡倉天心、柳宗悦の代表作と読み合わせ、日本美学との対照において、美と詩と労働の関係を考察したいと思います。
