With the deep penetration of social media into daily life and the expansive generation of big data with the information network absorbing our contemporary society at large, the field called "digital sociology" is emerging. This project research seminar requires students to explore the way we could design research strategies with a wide variety of analytical methods as "digital sociology," in a situation where the data available for social research are diversifying both in quantitative data and qualitative one.
Students will learn how to analyze large-scale, feature-rich data dealing with actual social media log data. The spring semester mainly focuses on theoretical aspects of digital sociology and fosters your acquisition of foundational methods and strategies of big data analysis using actual log data set.

いわゆるソーシャルメディアの日常生活への浸透、社会全体の情報ネットワークに伴うビッグ・データの拡大などを背景として、「デジタル社会学」と呼ばれる分野が興隆しつつある。本プロジェクト研究では、社会調査に利用可能なデータが量および質において多様に展開している状況において、「デジタル社会学」としての調査研究をどのようにデザインするのかについて、具体的な分析方法とともに探索的に考察することを目的とする。

ソーシャルメディア・ログデータをもとに、大規模でかつ豊富な特徴を備えたデータの分析方法について学ぶ。理論的な側面と分析例と方法論の学習を中心とする。

本プロジェクトでは、ビッグデータ解析をはじめ、一方で、統計的手法、情報工学的手法を積極的に用いるとともに、テキストデータに関しては質的調査の方法論もとりいれる。履修者には、社会調査の方法論、主として、プログラミング言語Pythonのコーディングを含むデータ分析法（自然言語処理）について深く学習するとともに、リサーチを自らデザインし実施する積極性が求められる。
