With the deep penetration of social media into daily life and the expansive generation of big data with the information network absorbing our contemporary society at large, the field called "digital sociology" is emerging. This project research seminar requires students to explore the way we could design research strategies with a wide variety of analytical methods as "digital sociology," in a situation where the data available for social research are diversifying both in quantitative data and qualitative one.
Students will learn learn how to analyze large-scale and feature-rich data dealing with actual large social media log data and/or smartphone log data, In the fall semester, while you learn methodology of analysis of big data and the way to develop research design, students are required to formulate research questions, surveying literature, conducting research with adjusting your research strategies, collecting data, developing analysis, drawing conclusions and summarizing the results so as to finish writing up an essay.

いわゆるソーシャルメディアの日常生活への浸透、社会全体の情報ネットワークに伴うビッグ・データの拡大などを背景として、「デジタル社会学」と呼ばれる分野が興隆しつつある。本プロジェクト研究では、社会調査に利用可能なデータが量および質において多様に展開している状況において、「デジタル社会学」としての調査研究をどのようにデザインするのかについて、具体的な分析方法とともに探索的に考察することを目的とする。

ソーシャルメディアログデータ、スマホログデータをもとに、大規模でかつ豊富な特徴を備えたデータの分析方法について学ぶ。秋学期はリサーチデザインについて文献により学習した上で、具体的な調査研究課題を設定し、ソーシャルメディアログデータを取得し、分析、レポートにまとめるという、一連の調査プロセスに根ざした実習を行う。

本プロジェクトでは、ビッグデータ解析をはじめ、一方で、統計的手法、情報工学的手法を積極的に用いるとともに、テキストデータに関しては質的調査の方法論もとりいれる。履修者には、社会調査の方法論、ソフトウェアの操作を含むデータ分析法について深く学習するとともに、リサーチを自らデザインし実施する積極性が求められる。
