【Course Objectives】

Students will review and understand the latest studies on topics such as works in the new (or gig) economy, high involvement work systems, flexible forms of employment, balance between work and life, women's work, and new labor movement which are discussed in English journals.

【Course Contents】

Students will review and understand the latest studies on topics such as works in the new (or gig) economy, high involvement work systems, flexible forms of employment, balance between work and life, women's work, and new labor movement which are discussed in English journals. Students will read the latest papers from the following journals.
American Journal of Sociology,
American Sociological Review,
British Journal of Industrial Relation,
Capital and Class,
Economic and Industrial Democracy,
Labor Studies Journal,
Work, Employment and Society, etc.
In this class, students are able to understand the latest arguments discussed in English-speaking countries and areas and also to consider implications of these arguments for Japanese economy, society, and workers.
