【Course Objectives】

The objective of this course is to have new graduate school students who are aiming to earn a master's degree and wish to start research activities learn about research ethics, how to write papers, and research methods, acquire fundamental knowledge about how to write papers using honest methods, use that knowledge to engage in fundamental research activities, and develop the fundamental research capabilities to write papers.

【Course Contents】

In recent years, various problems of research misconduct have occurred in the academic world. In Political Science research as well, neglecting or ignoring the rules for citations and notes, etc. may be deemed research misconduct as a result. In this class, students will first learn about research ethics and master the fundamental knowledge to understand what constitutes fraudulent behavior. Next, students will learn how to gather information in a practical manner. Furthermore, they will learn what research methods have been applied to various fields of Political Science to develop the ability to apply those techniques to summarize their own research topic as a paper.
During the first half, students will learn about research ethics and how to write papers which they need to know in advance to perform future research. During the latter half, students will read in turn the leading works from each area of specialization within Political Science and the latest top research results to deepen their understanding of the various research methods in Political Science.
