【Course Objectives】

The aim of this course is to engage in cutting-edge discussion and to consider practical issues through analysis of the latest judicial precedents concerning Intellectual Property Law.

【Course Contents】

First, the instructor presents a simple lecture about the arguments of Intellectual Property Law. Next, student presenters use comparatively new court precedents on relevant arguments as subject matter to research academic papers and related court precedents to give a presentation. Following presentations, all students engage in discussion.
Intellectual Property Law is developing rapidly and cuts across legal domains. One cannot say that questions such as to what extent issues can be reduced to discussions in the fundamental legal domains of Civil Law, Criminal Law, Procedural Law, Administrative Law, etc. and from what point do problems which are specific to Intellectual Property Law start have been sufficiently clarified. Recently, strong awareness has arisen of the intersection with domains such as the Constitution, Competition Law, and Labor Law. Therefore, referring to discussions in Intellectual Property Law are likely to prove useful to students majoring in other fields. Students majoring in Intellectual Property Law are, of course, welcome, but it is hoped that students with a diverse range of backgrounds and interests will participate.
