This course will enable students to independently analyze theoretical texts regarding moving images and deepen students’ theoretical understanding of moving images. Students will also develop a theoretical ability to analyze the relationships between animation and other media in terms of history and characteristics.
Based on the knowledge of animation research that they gained from reading the works of Paul Wells during the Spring semester, students will read a variety of texts, including the works of Tom Gunning, Scott Bukatman, Hannah Frank, Donald Crafton, and Ester Leslie, to engage with a diverse mix of animation theories and learn about the overlap between animation and other media in terms of history and characteristics.

映像に関する理論的な文章を自身で読み解けるようになる。映像に関する理論的な理解を深める。アニメーションとそれ以外のメディアの歴史、性質的な関係について理論的に考える力を養う。
This course will enable students to independently analyze theoretical texts regarding moving images and deepen students’ theoretical understanding of moving images. 春学期で講読したPaul Wellsの著作で得たアニメーション研究の知見を基盤として、Tom Gunning, Scott Bukatman, Hannah Frank, Donald Crafton, Esther Leslieらの著作を講読し、多様なアニメーション理論やアニメーションと他メディアとの歴史的、性質的な重なり合いについての考えを学ぶ。
