The aims of this course are for students to master the foundations of sociology. Specifically, the aim is that students reach three goals: 1) understanding the basic theories and concepts of sociology, 2) obtaining overviews of various research fields in sociology, and 3) becoming able to grasp concrete social phenomena from the viewpoint of sociology.
This course is divided into the following three steps: (1) explain the classical theories of M. Weber and E. Durkheim, and basic concepts such as role and power; (2) introduce each field of sociology, such as media, city, and gender; and (3) discuss present and future society with students through some key concepts, such as risk and publicness. The course format is mainly lecture, but as appropriate, incorporates practical training such as group work.

本授業では、社会学の基礎を修得することを目標に講義を行う。具体的には、①社会学の基本的な理論や概念を理解する、②社会学の多様な研究分野の概要を知る、③社会学の視座を用いて具体的な社会現象を捉えることができるようになる、の三点の目標に受講者が到達することを目指す。

本授業では、以下の三段階のステップを踏む。まず、M・ヴェーバーやE・デュルケームの古典理論や、役割や権力といった基本概念について説明する。次に、メディアや都市、ジェンダー論など社会学の各分野を紹介する。最後に、リスクや公共性といったいくつかのキー概念を通して、受講生とともに現代や未来の社会について議論・構想する。なお、授業は主に講義形式で行うが、適宜、グループワークなど実習の形式も取り入れる。
