Notes 21世紀社会デザイン研究科では、教室での対面授業を基本としながら、同時に遠隔地在住の学生の学びを保証するため、オンラインでも受講できる形で授業を行う。なお、履修者全員の了承が取れた場合には、「対面のみ」もしくは「オンラインのみ」で授業を行うこともある。

【Course Objectives】

Students will learn the basics of considering "Nin-gen(humans)" as social beings in contemporary Japan from Tetsuro Watsuji. The specific goals are, (1) To become able to objectively explain and criticize the ideas of Watsuji (2) Based on this, to become able to create "one's own ideas" in line with one's own problem awareness and become able to express them with persuasiveness.

【Course Contents】

We humans live in some kind of “mechanism” (society and organization). Whatever kind of “mechanism” we consider, such as political, economic, ecological or religious, individuals have no choice but to live through their relationships within these mechanisms. According to Watsuji, a “Nin-gen(human being)” is both a society and an individual, and is a "Yononaka(World)" as well as a "Hito(person)". If so, how should we think as "Nin-gen" who are both individuals and societies. We will read Watsuji's book "Nin-gen no gaku toshiteno Rinrigaku(Ethics As the Study of Man)" which is relatively difficult to read on one's own even among the writings of Watsuji and cultivate "philosophical" thinking while deepening understanding together.
 Students must read the designated text in advance, listen to the (simple as possible) commentary by the lecturer in the classes, ask questions and dialogue, and write brief comments after the classes. By feeding back the comments in the next class and sharing them with all the participants, we hope to make the class a multi-directional and circulatory "place of dialogue" and "community of intellectual inquiry".
