【Course Objectives】

There are many ways to support the efforts of citizens and nonprofit organizations such as donations, subsidies, co-sponsoring, pro bono, and crowdfunding. Among them, "subsidies" have the characteristics that the subsidy grantor (the originator of the funds) has some problem that they expect to change or has achievement goals, and desires specific outcomes from the subsidy recipient (the recipient of the funds), and that there is a series of institutionalized processes and procedures concerning the subsidies. In this course, as students deepen their understanding of the nature of subsidies, they will learn about the social role of subsidy programs and foundations in practice. At the same time, students will learn about the basic methodology of subsidies and indivisible "evaluation" and learn about the latest trends.

【Course Contents】

Referencing the activities of subsidy foundations and "subsidy programs" that are actually operated, students will analyze the missions, policies, program construction, and specific subsidy processes, etc. of subsidies. In addition, students will consider operational issues and the possibilities of subsidies, and also consider the ideal form of foundations and subsidy programs required for Japanese society in the future, and the development of specialized human resources. At the same time, with regard to "evaluation" that is essential to the subsidy process, after covering the basics, we will introduce the variations and the latest trends.
The specific approach of the course will be based on presentation of opinions and discussions of the subjects along the theme of each class. Lectures will also be given by guests who are active at the forefront of their fields.
