Cities can be analyzed from environment aspects such as air, water,solid waste and wild life. In this course, participating students will study characteristic of cities from environmental point of view, find hidden issue which economy and society tend to ignore, and obtain good picture of sustainability of cities..
Major population lives now in urban areas and we cannot get good insight on modern society without reviewing economy and society of cities. On the other hands, when reviewing urban sustainability, environmental issues are often overlooked but essential elements. In this course, participating students will study cities from various environment aspects, realize issued to be tackled, and obtain clues to think about sustainability of cities in 21 century.
The themes and their order may change according to the interests and questions of the course participants.

都市は、大気や水、廃棄物、生物など環境の切り口からも分析することができる。環境面の切り口から都市の特性を考察し、経済や社会からは見えない課題を描き出し、都市の持続性を考える視座を得る。

今や都市地域に居住する人は多数派となり、都市での経済/社会のありかた抜きに現代社会は語れなくなってきている。一方で、都市の持続可能性を考える際に、環境問題への取組は、軽視されがちだが欠かすことができない要素である。本授業では、都市のあり方を様々な環境の側面から検討し、その抱える問題点を明らかにし、21世紀の都市の持続性を考えるきっかけを得る。
なお、授業で扱うテーマ、その扱う順序は受講生の関心事など踏まえて変更することがあり得る。

| 1 | ガイダンス 都市の定義、都市の特性を議論し、都市の持続性、都市とその外とのつながりを考える。 |
| 2 | 都市と環境①廃棄物 都市での廃棄物処理問題について、取組の歴史、現在の課題について検討する。 |
| 3 | 都市と環境②水道、下水道 都市の水インフラである上水道、下水道をめぐる課題を明らかにする。 |
| 4 | 都市と環境③エネルギー 都市でのエネルギー消費の特徴とその環境への影響、取組の方向性を検討する。 |
| 5 | 都市と環境④自動車交通と大気汚染 都市での車、トラック利用とそれによる大気汚染について、裁判の歴史や自治体の取組を踏まえながら、考察する。 |
| 6 | 都市と環境⑤都市の野生生物 都市に生きる野生生物とわたしたちの都市生活との関わりを考察する。 |
| 7 | 都市と環境⑥土壌・地下水 都市、特に工場跡地での土壌汚染、地下水汚濁とその除去対策を考える。 |
| 8 | 都市と環境⑦気候変動とその適応 都市での気温上昇、都市型洪水への「適応」の可能性を探る。 |
| 9 | 都市と環境⑧都市と建築物、アスベスト 都市景観の構成要素でもある建築物のあり方や、多くの建築物に残されてるアスベストといった都市建築物をめぐる問題について検討する。 |
| 10 | 都市の土地利用・都市農業 都市計画と土地利用のあり方、都市農業について考える。 |
| 11 | 都市の持続性を担う人々 市民やNPO、町内会といった市民活動、地域活動を担う人々について、その現状、支援や育成について考察する。 |
| 12 | 都市と海外とのつながり 都市の生活は海外で生産、採取されたものによって支えられており、サプライチェーンによるつながりの現状、問題点を検討する。 |
| 13 | 都市と地方とのつながり 都市は、地方の自然が提供する生態系サービス（水、大気、防災など）の恵みを受けている。その関係を地域循環共生圏の考えなども踏まえて考察する。 |
| 14 | まとめ・クロージング 都市の持続可能性を環境をベースに考え、これからの持続可能な都市づくりの方向性について、検討する。 |
