The aim of this course is to help students acquire the basic concepts of risk communication. The goals of this course for students are to be able to explain major theories, evaluate practices, and apply theories or findings to real-world situations.
This course deals with the following case studies: natural disasters, BSE, GMO technology, GMO food, the geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste, nuclear power plant accidents, infectious disease control, pesticide regulations and risk trade-offs, global warming, and the precautionary principle. All students are expected to discuss the presentations on actual cases. Students are required to submit two small papers in this course.

リスクコミュニケーションは、市民がリスクを民主的にガバナンスするためのステークホルダー間の社会的相互作用過程として発展してきた。授業ではリスクコミュニケーションの理論と戦略、方法を理解するとともに、合意形成や政策提言、意思決定との連続性を踏まえ、現代社会におけるリスクコミュニケーションを考究する。

授業では、講義とディスカッションを実施する。様々な分野の事例分析を通じて、リスクコミュニケーションの意義と課題を分析し、リスクガバナンスの視点から適用場面に応じたリスクコミュニケーションの新たな戦略と方法を検討する。
