【Course Objectives】

Participate in real interpreting projects and become familiar with actual work, gain an understanding of workplace ethics and develop professional awareness specific to the interpreting profession by practically utilizing previously studied interpreting theory and interpreting skills acquired in various courses.

【Course Contents】

This course is for students who have already taken all of the following three courses: “Introduction to Conference Interpreting,” “Conference Interpreting 1,” and “Conference Interpreting 2” (For AY2023, Conference Interpreting 2 and Interpreting Practicum can be taken in the same semester).

Students will first develop an understanding of the aims of practical training and the abilities/professional awareness that should be acquired through practical training. In addition, students will learn about Rikkyo University’s translation and interpreting service-learning project “RiCoLaS,” as well as a variety of internships and other opportunities for gaining practical work experience. Based on the understanding gained in the areas above, individual targets for each student will be decided.

During the practical training period, the training details will be recorded, including a) one’s own goals, b) tasks toward achieving one’s goals, and c) actual outcomes.

In addition to giving a final oral presentation summarizing the overall process, students will submit their completed practical training reports at the end of the semester.
