【Course Objectives】

Students will (1) understand the relationship between intercultural communication studies and memory studies, and (2) examine historical revisionism, which is tied to both racism and nationalism, by referring to the concept of collective memory.

【Course Contents】

Since the 2010s, intercultural communication research incorporating the concept of collective memory has increased. Collective memory, which is tied to culture, history, identity, and media among others, is an extremely relevant concept to intercultural communication studies. In the early part of this course, we will examine the relationship between intercultural communication studies and memory studies. Then we will grasp the overview of memory studies by reading an introductory textbook of memory studies. Lastly, we will look into historical revisionism, which is tied to both racism and nationalism, critical issues for intercultural communication, by referring to the concept of collective memory.
