【Course Objectives】

The aims of this course are:
1. To be able to explain the concept of social development;
2. To be able to discuss issues of social development in so-called developing countries concretely;
3. To understand how to get involved with social development through participatory learning.

【Course Contents】

It has been revealed in recent years that economic growth does not necessarily bring poverty reduction in the region, and as a counter-concept, social development has attracted more attention. Social development covers various fields such as education, medical care, health and hygiene, disaster prevention, and the environment. At the same time, it is closely linked to development issues such as “residents’ participation in development,” the “gender gap in development,” and “socially vulnerable people.”
In this course, we will provide an overview of the concept of social development and discuss its issues in the so-called developing countries.
