【Course Objectives】

In this course, we will study several important aspects related to Christianity. Because Christianity is based on practices, we will avoid making abstract statements about Jesus and the Churches. Our aim is to examine the realities of Christian life as embodied in the sacraments of the Church and celebrated in concrete rituals. Furthermore, the course will look into the relationship between the sacraments and what is called “ecclesiology,” that is, the scientific study of the Churches.

【Course Contents】

The first half of the course will deal with the various ideas that theologians had towards the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. We will start by focusing on the Early Church.
In the second half of the course, we will examine the basic points of ecclesiology, that his, the fundamental doctrines and beliefs of the Church. Our approach will be to study their origins in the Bible as well as in the thought of the Early Church Father’s. Then we will look at the ideas held during the Reformation and, finally, ideas held today.
By the end of the course, students should be able to describe and explain some of the more important ideas of sacramental theology and ecclesiology.
