【Course Objectives】

The objectives of this course are (1) to have a general comprehensive understanding of the content of the Acts of the Apostles, (2) to understand the major narrative and theological themes and concepts of the Acts of the Apostles in light of their historical and ideological contexts, and (3) to conduct research on a text or theme from the Acts of the Apostles.

【Course Contents】

As a sequel to the Gospel of Luke, the Acts of the Apostles is a unique narrative text in the New Testament. It describes the earliest Christian community/church and its mission after the life of Jesus with a focus on the spread of the “word of God.” This course will (1) overview the content of the Acts of the Apostles with attention to its distinctive literary characteristics (including its relationship to the Gospel of Luke, the “we” passages, and speeches), (2) observe the major theological themes and concepts of the Acts of the Apostles and how they function within its narrative, (3) and consider some of the exegetical and historical debates related to research of the Acts of the Apostles.
