【Course Objectives】

The two specific aims of this courses are: (1) to develop a basic knowledge and understanding of Christianity in Asia; and (2) to explore how Asian Christians are resisting conservative understandings of the church and striving for a community that is inclusive of all people.

【Course Contents】

This course focuses on Christianity in Asia as our neighbors from an ecumenical perspective. First, an overview of various aspects of Christianity in East and Southeast Asia, specifically case studies in the Korean Peninsula and northern Thailand, is provided. Second, how Christians participating in the ecumenical movement in India, Indonesia and the Philippines have resisted issues of exclusion on the grounds of gender, sexuality, and gender identity will be examined.
