This course aims to acquire the academic skills necessary to study the history, politics, society, religion, and culture of the Middle East and the Islamic world. Students will be able to read existing research and give presentations on their own and will be able to write the BA thesis. They will also acquire the ability to listen to the presentations of other students and ask constructive advice and questions.
In this course, students will select and collect multiple reference materials on themes of interest to each student regarding the history, politics, society, religion, and culture of the Middle East and the Islamic world (Class 1-3).
Then, students will read in rotation according to their interests (Class 4-8).
Finally, students (2 or 3 people) will be assigned to present their research questions and report on the background of the questions based on multiple previous studies. Alternatively, summarize the content of one paper or book and critically analyze the previous studies (Class 9-14).

このコースは、中東・イスラーム世界の歴史、政治、社会、宗教、文化を研究するために必須なアカデミック・スキルを習得することを目標とします。既存研究の読解や、プレゼンテーション等を自ら実践し、卒論などの論文形式の文章を執筆できるようになるとともに、他の受講生の発表を聞いて、建設的な助言・質問をする力の習得も目指します。
This course aims to acquire the academic skills necessary to study the history, politics, society, religion, and culture of the Middle East and the Islamic world. 中東・イスラーム世界の歴史、政治、社会、宗教、文化に関して、各自が興味・関心をもつテーマに関する複数の参考文献を収集します（第１回から第３回）。
第４回から第８回は、受講者の関心に合わせて輪読を行います。
次に、第９回から第１４回は、各回の報告者（２名もしくは３名）を決め、自らのリサーチ・クエスチョンを発表し、その背景について複数の先行研究をふまえて報告する、もしくは、先行研究の中で特に重要であると考えられる論文・書籍１点の内容について紹介した上で、適切に批評することを受講者それぞれが実践します。
