The ultimate goal of cultural anthropology is to answer the question, "what is human beings?" through a comparative study of modes of thoughts and practices in various regions. In this class, we will learn the basic ideas and methods of cultural anthropology through case studies on practices around the world. At the same time, we will cultivate our ability to analyze the value norms that they have taken for granted objectively and critically. Depending on the situation, we are going to conduct group fieldwork.
This class focuses on reading the literature on cultural and social anthropology. Also, student make research presentations based on their interests.

文化人類学は、さまざまな地域に暮らす人間の思考様式や実践の比較検討を通して、「人類とは何か」という問いに答えることを目指す学問である。この演習では、文化人類学の基礎的な考え方と方法を、世界各地のさまざまな事例を通して学ぶ。同時に、これまで自明視してきた価値規範について客観的・批判的に分析する力を養う。さらに、受講生の興味関心とこれらのトピックを関連付けて思考する力を育成する。場合によっては、小規模のグループ・フィールドワークを行うこともある。

文化・社会人類学に関する文献の輪読および学生の研究発表を中心とする。輪読では、発表者とコメンテータを毎回決め、受講生全員で議論を行う。学生の発表は、学生の関心に基づいてテーマを決め、グループ発表や個人発表を行う。
