In this class, we will learn various modes of thought and practices of human being, by looking into cultural anthropological research on African ethnic groups. Specifically, we will focus on classic ethnographies, which covers livelihood, kinships and marriage, law, politics, ethnicity, refugee and development, etc., and discuss the connections between African society and our lives.
Learning the diversity of human societies is an attempt to reconsider the assumptions we have taken for granted. Africa, which is the birthplace of humankind and has a long history of human settlement, has diverse cultures, social forms, religious practices, and philosophies. In this class, we will learn the methodology and theory of cultural anthropology from ethnographies on these themes.
Students will read the textbook in advance and submit a mini-report. The instructor will then give a lecture related to the content of the submitted report.

アフリカの諸民族集団を対象とした文化人類学的研究をもとに、人類が育んできた知や実践の体系を学び、人類文化の多様性と可能性を追求する。具体的には、生業、親族、結婚、法、政治、民族、難民、開発などを対象とした古典的民族誌を取り上げ、アフリカ社会と私たちの生とのつながりや、人類が育んできた普遍的な原理について思考する。
In this class, we will learn various modes of thought and practices of human being, by looking into cultural anthropological research on African ethnic groups. Specifically, we will focus on classic ethnographies, which covers livelihood, kinships and marriage, law, politics, ethnicity, refugee and development, etc., and discuss the connections between African society and our lives.
人類社会の多様性を学ぶことは、私たちが当然のように受けれている前提を問い直す試みである。人類発祥の地であり、人類居住の長い歴史を持つアフリカには、多様な言語文化、生業、親族・社会形態、宗教実践や宇宙哲学が存在する。本授業では、これらのテーマを取り上げた民族誌から、文化人類学の方法論と理論を学ぶ。さらに、古典的民族誌で取り上げられた事象が現代のアフリカでどう持続・変化しているのかを知ることで、アフリカと私たちの生の連続性について思考する。
学生は事前にテキストを読んでミニ・レポートを提出する。その後、教員が提出されたレポート内容と関連する講義を行う。
