1. Students will be able to describe the characteristics of United States society historically.
2. Students will be capable of comparing and evaluating historical interpretations with documents and scholarly research.
This course examines the competing interpretations of the United States' history. Students are required to read a short chapter of an assigned text before coming to each class. Through lectures and discussions, each student has opportunities to evaluate historical interpretations of the assigned text critically.

２．さまざまな歴史像を史料や諸研究とともに比較検討して評価できる。

アメリカ合衆国社会とはなにか。その歴史像の競合や変貌を通して検討する。
履修者は藤永康政・松原宏之編著『「いま」を考えるアメリカ史』（2022年）の短い該当章を読んだ上で、各回の授業に臨んでもらいたい。講義では、各章の狙いを読み解きながら、履修者とともにその論評に踏み込みたい。ディスカッション・セッションや中間レポートをまじえて、履修者各自はアメリカ合衆国のいまと歴史とを具体的に描き出すことができるようになるはずである。
