In this course, the aim is to understand contemporary society where traditional values and norms are changing, through various cases of folklore and folk religion studies.
Folk religion is a manipulated concept that includes not only religious principles and practitioners, but religious beliefs and practices in the everyday world as a whole. The course will study the Japanese culture, focusing on shrines, temples and sacred mountains.

フォークロアおよび民俗宗教の考え方やさまざまな事例を通して、伝統的な価値観・規範が変容し多元化した現代社会について理解を深めることを目標とする。
In this course, the aim is to understand contemporary society where traditional values and norms are changing, through various cases of folklore and folk religion studies.
民俗宗教とは、宗教教団の教義や思想あるいは宗教的職能者だけではなく、一般の人びとの日常生活の中に潜在する宗教的信念や実践の総体をさす言葉です。この授業では寺社、霊山などを聖地としてとらえ、それらに関連する民俗宗教の事例を通して、日本の文化を考えてゆきましょう。
なぜ人は聖地に足を運ぶのか。伊勢、富士山、出羽三山などの寺社や霊山をとりあげて考えていきたいと思います。
