【Course Objectives】

Students will learn about the fundamental concepts of education and about what constitutes an educational philosophy. Students will also learn about how these concepts and philosophies of education have appeared in educational history and thoughts. The class aims to help students consider the future of education based on an understanding of how education and schooling have been conceived and changed.

【Course Contents】

(1) Students will understand the basic concepts of education (and pedagogy), and learn how modern education systems were established while comparing Japan with other countries.
(2) Students will learn about modern educational thought in Western countries.
(3) Students will connect issues in contemporary education to philosophies and thought they have learned up until now, and think about educational issues in contemporary society from a historical perspective.
