【Course Objectives】

Students will understand human development from a sociocultural-historical approach in three time scales of phylogeny, social history and ontogeny.

【Course Contents】

The basic knowledge of developmental psychology, focusing on the theory of mental development based on the socio-cultural historical (Vygotskian) approach, will be discussed to inquiry peculiarities of human beings. Students learn about the process of humanization in which humans become humans by examining the differences between humans and other apes, and the mentality of people under the school education system. Furthermore, students will deepen their understanding of human ontogeny by examining the development of symbolic functions such as play, drawing, and language. Specific examples will be introduced to consider them. Students are expected to engage in discussing any topics eagerly.
