【Course Objectives】

Understanding the ecological nature of an area in Japan and its human history, culture, and industry, and then redefining that area from a global perspective. Students will gain an experiential understanding of the issues and methods for building a sustainable society in line with the goals of the SDGs, while at the same time acquiring an ESD (environmental education) perspective.

【Course Contents】

Using the Global Campus in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture as a base, we will gain an understanding of the nature, history, culture, and industry of Rikuzentakata City, as well as the damage caused by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, uncover the region's advantages and challenges from a global perspective, interact with local people, and make proposals for creating a sustainable society in this region. We will also exchange views with local people and make proposals for the creation of a sustainable society in the region. At the same time, in conjunction with the students' Inquiry-Based Study class at Iwate Prefectural Takata High School, the program will support the high school students' regional development education and jointly present their Inquiry-Based Study. After a preliminary study with high school students, the participants will conduct a field survey for about 4 days and 3 nights, and make a presentation at the Global Campus on the last day of the program. After the field research, each individual will prepare a final report.
