【Course Objectives】

At the conclusion of this course, students will
1. Produce close readings of reading materials with diverse dimensions of textual complexity.
2. Contribute to paired and grouped discussions, responding to each other's ideas productively.
3. Compose spoken and written arguments that demonstrate an awareness of critical approaches and research skills.

【Course Contents】

Past and contemporary Southern writers have provided the reader with multiple opportunities to observe the complicated intermingling of cultural identity and food. In this course, we will investigate a variety of representations of foodways in literary texts and reconsider the Southern literary tradition from a culinary perspective. We will read tree unique texts by Harriet Jacobs, Richard Wright and Carson McCullers.
