This course will introduce students to 19th century British novels. By reading a series of novels, students will learn reading techniques and literary research methods.
Readings will consist of excerpts from three representative British novels of differing types. Classes will be conduced in the seminar style which consists of reports by multiple students preceding a class discussion. Students will utilize techniques learned in the first year seminar to produce handout reports detailing analyses, summaries, and discussion points of assigned passages.

代表的な19世紀イギリス小説を深く味わいましょう。それぞれの小説を講読することで、小説の「読み方」を知り、研究方法を理解します。
This course will introduce students to 19th century British novels. By reading a series of novels, students will learn reading techniques and literary research methods.
代表的なイギリス小説の中から、タイプの異なる2作品の抜粋部分を読みます。授業は、複数の担当者によるレポートと、クラス全員によるディスカッションの演習形式で行います。レポート担当者は、1年次の入門演習で得た知識を利用して該当箇所を分析し、概要とディスカッションのポイントをまとめたハンドアウトを用意すること。
