The aim of this course is to look at part of an English grammar book aimed at English speakers, and understnad at how the English grammar is described there differently from the way it is explained in so-called "school grammar" often taught in Japanese school, and for students to be able to explain it both orally (in oral presentation) AND in writing (in written exam）.
We will use an English grammar that is used at university in English-speaking countries for 1st and 2nd undergraduates. We will learn how various grammatical concepts are explained and also see different approaches taken to explain the grammar. This course this year will specifically focus on verbal inflection and the uses of the tense system. The first few weeks will be taught by the instructor. For the rest of the weeks there will be students' presentation and the lecture.
In each class we ask students to give a short speech (on the day of presentation). You can choose your own topic, and please thinking of something (your experience, your thought, etc.) that will enlighten your fellow students!

この授業の目標は、英語使用者を対象にした英語で書かれた英文法書の一部を読み解き、日本の中高で教えられている英文法の内容を、日本の中高で教わってきた英文法とは異なる枠組みで理解し、それを発表を通して口頭で、また筆記試験を通して文章の形で説明できるようになることです。この授業で特に扱う内容は、動詞の活用形、時制や助動詞を用いた様々な動詞構造の用法です。

英語圏の大学の学部1，2年生が使用している英文法書が主要テキストです。皆さんが中高で学んできたような英文法の用語は英語で何というのか、また英文法の様々な規則が英語でどのように説明されているか、等を学ぶことで、私たちの英文法に理解を深めていきたいと思っています。この演習では特に、動詞の屈折変化と時制の用法に焦点を当てます。最初の数回の授業は、小池による講義＋ディスカッションで進めます。以降からはグループによる発表で授業を進めます。授業は日本語で行います。
成績評価とは関係ありませんが、授業の冒頭で、グループ発表者は発表当日の授業冒頭で、一分間スピーチをします。トピックは特に問いませんが、本授業履修生にとって、何かプラスになるようなことを意識して話をしてください。

英語で書かれたテキストを読み解く基本的英語能力と、他の学生の前で口頭発表するためのプレゼンテーションの力、レジュメを作成するにあたり、関連する他の文献資料を調べる力が求められます。
授業に際しては、辞書等以外に必要は機器はありません。
授業の基本は、授業への出席です。就活、病気等による欠席も含め（教育実習による欠席は除く）、欠席が4回を超えた場合には、定期試験の成績に関わらず単位を出すことはできませんので、ご注意ください。グループ発表については、発表の一週間前に昼休み時間を使って、私と発表内容理解のための打ち合わせをします。発表前にあらかじめレジュメを作成してください。この授業の評価にあたって、発表は40％と大きな部分を成しています。発表当日、病気等で発表できなくなった場合には、別日に発表して頂くことがあります。
