【Course Objectives】

Students will read representative works of early modern literature, and will learn basic methods of Japanese literature research.

【Course Contents】

Students will acquire the basics of studying Japanese literature (literature search, outline and report writing, presentations, and discussions). In the class, students will select a work of interest from among early modern literary works, transcribe the work, explain its phrases, and translate it into contemporary language, as well as uncover questions and problems. Based on this, students will refer to prior research to collect related materials and conduct analysis of the works, then present their own views. They will also put their findings into writing and summarize them as reports.
