" Gosen-wakashu" (" Gosen-shu") is the second imperial anthology following "Kokin-wakashu". " Gosen-shu" is unique in that it contains many personnel poems in the seasonal section, a high proportion of poems by female poets, and captions that resemble poetry tales. In particular, the number of gift poems is overwhelmingly greater than in other imperial anthologies. The aim of this exercise is to understand the role of waka poetry as a tool for social interaction in aristocratic society through a close reading of the gift poems in the love section of " Gosen-shu". It also aims to develop skills in the study of waka poetry, such as the use of materials and methods of reading.
The first and second sessions provide an overview of the work and the methods of research and presentation.From the third session onwards, presentations will be made by the person in charge and discussed by all. There are a number of commentaries and studies on " Gosen-shu", including ancient commentaries. The presenters will present their analyses and interpretations of their assigned passages with their own awareness of the issues while referring to these commentaries. Through discussion in the whole group, we would like to deepen the reading comprehension.

『後撰和歌集』（『後撰集』）は、『古今和歌集』に続く第二勅撰集である。同集は、四季部にも人事詠が多い、女流歌人の歌の割合が高い、歌物語のような詞書が見られるなど特異な性格を持つ。なかでも贈答歌の多さは他の勅撰集を圧倒している。本演習は、『後撰集』恋部の贈答歌を精読することにより、貴族社会における社交の道具としての和歌のあり方を理解することを目標とする。また、資料の使い方、読解の方法など、和歌研究の技術を身に付けることを目指す。

初回と２回目に作品の概要と調査・発表の方法を説明する。３回目以降は、担当者による発表と全員での討議を行う。『後撰集』は古注釈を含め複数の注釈書があり研究も多い。発表者は、それらを参照しつつ、自分なりの問題意識を持って担当箇所を分析・解釈して発表する。全体での討議を通して、読解を深めていきたい。
