【Course Objectives】

(1) Acquire the attitude to appreciate classical Chinese poetry and prose.
(2) Become able to explain the historical development of Chinese literary studies.
(3) Develop an overall understanding of the relationship between Chinese literary studies and Japanese literature.

【Course Contents】

Classical Chinese literature is not merely foreign literature. For example, as seen in the case of Natsume Soseki, who enjoyed composing Chinese poetry as a hobby, the language has been inherited as a form of expressing the Japanese spirit. Additionally, there are numerous works in Japanese literature that have accepted and utilized classical Chinese literature as a material for expression. I would like to explore together with you the expansiveness that classical Chinese texts possess.
