【Course Contents】

We will read, appreciate, and consider works in various genres such as literature, performing arts, and painting that were created based on the battle between the Genji and Heishi clans, which is considered a turning point in the Japanese medieval period. We offer classes on works in a variety of genres, including military tales, Japanese poetry, historical criticism, Noh play, Kyogen play, Kowakamai play, picture books, picture scrolls, and folding screens. However, in some classes, in order to consider the relationship between changing times and the corresponding literature and performing arts, we will also cover the Japanese early-modern works such as Bunraku play, kabuki, and ukiyo-e.
