【Course Objectives】

By reading (mostly) modern and contemporary Japanese novels from the perspective of "place" and "land," we will deepen our understanding of how they can be interpreted and appreciated.

【Course Contents】

The three elements of a novel are form, expression, and content (Hidetada Fujii, Professor Emeritus of this university). Place and land are related to the content (the effect of being set there). In our daily lives, do we pay any attention to the kind of place in which a novel is developed? Or perhaps we are even interested in the land itself. This class will focus on works set in a specific place and land.We will consider the interpretation and appreciation that is possible through the inclusion of specific information and deepen the understanding of the works. Please note that the content of this class is subject to modification.
