【Course Objectives】

The goals of this course are to
・understand the specifics of the various schools of thought that fall within the framework of “Eastern philosophy”, while referring to the original sources,
・gain a perspective to consider on one's own what new possibilities for thought can be found in so-called “Eastern philosophy”.

【Course Contents】

This course introduces the contents of Neo-Confucianism, which once had an overwhelming influence in East Asia, based on an easy-to-understand explanatory text. The instructor will present the original sources and related materials used by the author to explain and verify the content. The status of issues that have been the subject of divergent interpretations will also be explained. The students will be encouraged to consider for themselves how Neo-Confucianism relates to their own, how it does not relate to their own, and whether or not it brings any new elements to their own thinking.
