【Course Objectives】

The aim of this lecture is to discuss the relationship between companies and various areas such as the economy, environment, and society, and to understand how companies should be in society.

【Course Contents】

In the context of increasing globalization of economic activities and the expanding impact on the environment and society, there is a growing expectation for companies to conduct socially responsible business operations and address societal challenges. This contemporary trend, often termed the 'Sustainability Revolution,' underscores the vital roles and functions that corporations are expected to fulfill.

This lecture series aims to comprehensively explore corporate social responsibility through three distinct aspects:

1) Global Context, Discussions, and Theories: We will delve into the global challenges faced by businesses in today's economic and social landscapes and explore the theoretical approaches addressing these issues.
2) Japanese Corporations and Society: The focus will be on the initiatives and impacts of social responsibility within Japanese corporations, deepening the understanding from a national perspective.
3) Case Studies (Practical Aspects): Analyzing real-world CSR activities from both domestic and international corporations, we will examine concrete challenges and success stories in the field.

Furthermore, to gain a deeper understanding of the latest trends and discussions in the field, especially from Western perspectives, we plan to invite several guest speakers who are experts and practitioners in the field. This is intended to bridge the gap between theory and practice, offering students more practical insights.
