【Course Objectives】

This course aims to develop intercultural communication abilities vital for global professionals. Students will gain foundational knowledge and skills in the field of intercultural communication. Simultaneously, students will enhance practical skills, including intercultural negotiation and team building, necessary for multicultural organizations through case studies and simulation games.

【Course Contents】

In this course, we will learn the fundamental concepts and theories in intercultural communication studies, including the interaction between culture and communication, differences in cultural dimensions, intercultural adaptation, cultural schema, and acculturation. Additionally, various case studies involving people from different cultural backgrounds working together will be introduced. Specific themes to be covered include (1) intercultural adaptation of Japanese expatriates and their families, (2) transformation of identity and behaviors of multicultural employees, and (3) career development of foreign workers in Japan.
