The goal of this class is to learn the basic academic terminologies and be able to understand the logical structure of research papers written in English. For that purpose, we will read basic English texts on economic history.
In this class, we read English monographs on the production and consumption of beer in modern Europe and the United States. For preparation, students make a Japanese translation of the text by the day before each class. In class, we read aloud the original texts and check the Japanese translations. In order to deepen understanding and also prepare summaries, students discuss the unclear points in groups.

本授業では、経済史に関する基礎的な英語文献を購読する。基本的な学術用語に慣れるとともに、読みの方針を立てることで英語で書かれた研究書の論理構成を読み解けるようになることを目標とする。

本授業では、近現代欧米のビールの生産・消費をテーマとする文献を輪読する。予習として各回の授業前日までに指示された範囲の日本語訳を提出してもらう。授業内では原文の音読と日本語訳の確認を行い、不明な点の検討や要約の作成についてグループワークを通じて理解を深めてもらう。
