【Course Objectives】

Students acquire a fundamental knowledge of political economy to gain the ability to historically and theoretically examine the economic phenomena necessary to achieve the learning required for the degree.

【Course Contents】

This lecture covers the fundamentals of political economy. There are various theories about economics. In this lecture students consider what capitalism is from the perspective of Marxian economics. After an overview of the historical development of political economy, including mercantilism and classical economics, what a commodity or a currency is will be explained followed by a study of the elementary theories of political economy, such as why labor power becomes a commodity, what capital is, and how a surplus value is produced. Further, specific topics will be taken up to learn how actual economic problems can be viewed using political economy.
