【Course Objectives】

The goal of this lecture is to understand the development of the modern Asian economy and explain contemporary issues in the Japanese and Asian economies by connecting them with a historical perspective.

【Course Contents】

In this lecture, we will discuss the transformation of the Asian economy from the early modern period to modern times. We will capture the trends in the Chinese economy, which historically held significant weight in the Asian economy, and examine the formation of the basic structure of the Asian regional economy from the perspectives of trade, distribution, and market structure. Particularly, we will explore the impact of Western influences on Asian institutions and the process of independent growth in the Asian economy. This aims to deepen our understanding of the modern Asian economy as the foundation of contemporary Asian economic dynamics.
