【Course Objectives】

To study sustainability of global capitalism, and its policy responses, it is indispensable to consider backlashes to the extreme globalism including such issues as US-China trade war, global financial crisis, anti-EU sentiment, America-first. To study industrial policy and trade policy while economic security and AI issues are at stake.

【Course Contents】

Controversy by A. Smith with mercantilists borough about political economy. Trade policy and growth strategy will be the determinants of positioning of countries in the world system. Competition by the center country and the emerging ones will make economic frictions which in turn make other competitions. This will make global power shifts. The automobile industry is being transformed by autonomous driving, ride sharing, and the shift to electric vehicles. And there is the transformation of the banking industry and the emergence of new finance as cashless transactions spread and reduction of real offices. Explanations will be given to new trade policies and industrial policy coping with IoT and the 4th industrial revolution.
