The purpose of this course is to learn the significance of analyzing environmental problems from an economic perspective and to acquire the fundamental ability required to analyze the various policy issues regarding the environment. An additional purpose is to develop the logical thinking ability of students through dealing with the concepts of ecological economics.
In most cases, environmental problems are caused by the economic activities of people, so an understanding of the relationship between the economy and the environment is indispensable for solving those problems. This lecture will focus on ecological economics where economics techniques are used to analyze environmental problems and students will learn the corresponding general theory. In addition, as far as possible, the lecture will bring up specific environmental problems and political issues regarding the environment, and how ecological economics can actually be applied to these cases will also be introduced.

環境問題を経済学的な視点から分析することの意義を学ぶとともに，環境に関する様々な政策課題を分析するために必要な基礎的な力を身に付けることを目標とする。また，環境経済学の考え方に触れることで，論理的な思考力を養うことも目指す。

環境問題はほとんどの場合，人々の経済活動が原因で発生しており，その解決のためには経済と環境の関係について理解することが必要不可欠となる。本講義では，経済学的な手法を用いて環境問題の分析を行う環境経済学を取り上げ，その一般的な理論について学んでいく。また，講義では可能な限り具体的な環境問題や環境に関する政策的課題を取り上げ，環境経済学が現実にどのように応用可能かについても紹介する。
