The objective of the lecture is to understand the fundamentals of statistics, acquire the skills to process information using spreadsheet software, etc., and develop the ability to read and understand statistical information published in various media.
In today's world, there are many situations in which we have to worry about processing the large amount of information produced every day, not only in academic fields but also in business. Economic statistics released by government agencies, public opinion polls conducted by the media, corporate finance or stock price figures, market surveys by POS, etc., especially in the economic field, the ability to organize, analyze, and decipher numerical information is essential. Statistics is the basis for developing such skills. In this lecture, students will learn to use statistics while calculating independently. The information treated will mainly be related to companies, and exercises will be conducted using spreadsheet software in each lecture. No prior knowledge is required.

統計学の基礎を理解し、表計算ソフトなどを用いて実際に情報処理を行う技術を身に着けると共に、様々な媒体から公表される統計情報を読み解く能力を養うこと。

現代社会では、学術分野はもとより実務においても、日々生み出される大量の情報の処理について頭を悩ませる場面が多い。官公庁が公表する経済統計情報や各メディアの世論調査、企業の財務情報や株価情報、POSによる市場調査など、特に経済分野では数値情報を整理し分析する能力、あるいは読み解く能力が不可欠である。統計学はそのような能力を養うための基礎となる。本講義では、聴講するだけではなく実際に自分自身の手で計算を行うことにより、統計学を活用する能力を養うものとする。使用する経済情報は株価情報や財務情報など企業に関するものを主とし、毎回の講義で表計算ソフトを用いて演習を行う。事前知識は特に必要としない。また、計量経済学の領域までは扱わないため応用的な方法を知りたい場合は別途質問すること。
