A purpose of this lecture is to understand "distance", which is an important notion of mathematics. In particular we will explain its importance by concrete examples.
We will discuss a distance defined for real or rational numbers. Moreover we will also explain an abstract metric space and will treat some examples and applications.

数学で重要な概念である距離を理解することを目標にする．特に具体例を通して，距離の重要性を説明する．
A purpose of this lecture is to understand "distance", which is an important notion of mathematics. In particular we will explain its importance by concrete examples.
実数や有理数にたいして定義される距離について解説する．さらにこの概念を一般化した距離空間を説明し，その幾つかの例と応用を説明する．
