【Course Objectives】

The purpose of this lecture is to provide students with a theoretical and empirical understanding of "work" and to enable them to critically interpret the discourse on employment. In recent years, the changes and collapse of the Japanese-style employment system have been frequently discussed, but some references are based on misunderstandings. In this lecture, I will introduce how employers manage their employees from entry to retirement and how this has changed in recent years. The lecture will also discuss theories that view "work" from a sociological framework, in particular, and how labor can be viewed from various disciplinary perspectives. In other words, this lecture will explain the phenomenon of "labor" from the perspectives of both employers and employees. Through this, the course aims to help students understand the phenomenon of labor.

【Course Contents】

This lecture can be divided into two main categories: topics related to human resource management and sociological interpretation of how macro trends such as deindustrialization have brought about changes in the workplace.
