【Course Objectives】

The purpose of this course is to develop student's applied skills in quantitative sociological research by reading literature on social class and mobility, and training in critical thinking and data analysis.

【Course Contents】

In this seminar, we will study various inequalities in society from the perspective of social class and the method of quantitative data analysis. In particular, each student will examine their own research topics, focusing on changes in inequality or people's social attitudes, and causes and consequences of life events, such as marriage, childbirth, getting a job, changing job, and so on.
In the fall semester, students will develop their research skills in quantitative sociology by reading designated texts. In addition, students will improve their ability to come up with research ideas and concepts through training in constructing their own hypotheses based on criticism of previous research. Further analysis training will be conducted based on real survey data about social stratification and mobility.
