【Course Objectives】

・Students will be able to explain allegations and problems found in existing consumer culture theory.
・Students will be able to explain historical transitions and current states of consumer cultures.
・Students will be able to explain social problems caused by consumer cultures.
・Students will be able to discuss desirable consumer vision for the future.

【Course Contents】

Students will study modern society culture from consumer culture perspective. Students will discuss systematically its various aspects, social contexts, social impacts, historical transitions, and future trends. In the first half, professor will explain the mechanisms of consumer society and how its culture causes various social issues. For their interim works, students will watch video materials and participate in discussions. In the second half, students will discuss contemporary aspects of consumer culture such as risk reduction, digitalization, and sustainability.
